Steve Roddick of Amplus Group gives us an insight into how he tripled the size of his business in just 3 years with the help of a Business Coach.

 

He originally started the business in 2003 with 3 staff and grew the business to a turnover of around $3m after 5 years. However, he then found it difficult to continue to grow the business and sought the advice and expertise of a Business Coach.

Over the next 3 years he dramatically grew the business to revenues of $9m with much better profitability. He implemented the following key strategies (amongst others):

  • Conducted a SWOT analysis which helped to identify a highly profitable niche service.
  • Restructured his business to focus on this more profitable revenue stream, and started saying no to business that did not fit into this type of work.
  • Systemised business processes, policies and procedures to make the business run more smoothly and efficiently.
  • Grew his management and leadership skills to be able to better manage a larger business and higher quality staff.
  • Reset expectations with his team and held them more accountable. This meant some staff changes which led to a highly effective team.

All of these improvements allowed Steve to sell the business to a publicly listed company and then move into a more flexible, lifestyle business.
